Rosslare Europort Leads the Way in SmartPort Evolution 🚚 Rosslare is at the forefront as first 4th generation RoRo Ferry SmartPort, collaborative sector leading, allowing innovative dynamic checkin and Brexit handling for multi operators: Finnlines, DFDS, Stena Line, Irish Ferries, Brittany Ferries and Neptune Orient Lines (NOL).

This technological leap has been made possible through the use of SmartTraffic and enforcement technology, tailored specifically for RoRoFerry Ports by Adaptive Recognition and Brock Solutions has a key role as an integrator at Rosslare Europort, while AGICON has been instrumental in designing the SmartPort concept for Rosslare.

🚢 Comparison with Existing Technologies

It’s fascinating to see the evolution from the first-generation digital technology developed for DFDS in Denmark 30 years ago in Port Esbjerg, which was a pioneering step with the first-ever FreightGate digital system. This concept has since been adopted globally, including in the LoLo (Container Industry).

Currently, most terminals and RoRo Ferry Operators, operate at the 2nd to 3rd generation ‘SmartPort’ level, which primarily involved simple Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), Gate systems with GOS and manual or semi-manual booking processes and lane management.

🔍 What Sets the 4th Generation Apart?

The 4th generation introduces groundbreaking changes, such as the Pre-Scanner (FreightGate) in a free-flow setup before check-in. The accuracy of systems like ANPR has surpassed 99%, and various types of non-intrusive infrared light are now utilized, enhancing efficiency and accuracy. Fully automated realtime OCR mobile inventory on unaccompanied semitrailers is key.

🔧 Innovative Check-In and Traffic Management

At the check-in stage, the system now compares booked data against actual data from the FreightGate, correcting any discrepancies. This advancement paves the way for fully automated and free-flow operations.

🌐 Expanding Across Europe in 2024

More installations and projects are being commissioned across Europe in 2024, featuring various gate designs. A notable mention is the Agile low cost Gantry and FreightGate solution with Weight-In-Motion (WIM) and Non-disturbing IR technology developed by Adaptive Recognition with AGICON as operational sector demand expert.

🤝 Collaboration for a Smarter Future

This advancement is a testament to the collaboration between various companies like Adaptive Recognition Nordic ⅍ , Kistler GroupDAV NORDIC A/SAmpron and others, who are collectively shaping the future of ferry port operations and contribute to ferry automation a for reduction of emissions

Join the frontrunners by implementing 4th Generation Smartport Technology
