Project
Apron Information and Warning Solution for Tallinn Airport, Public Procurement
Location
Tallinn Airport, Estonia
Background
Tallinn Airport apron area is a busy place. There are numerous parties involved – ground handling, aircraft refueling, in-flight catering, aircraft maintenance, cargo handling, and terminal operations. So it is important that everyone is on the same page when the information of the weather conditions and emergency status information are concerned.
Customer Challenge
The airport had old lightbox solution that had only two statuses, light up and turn off the notification with the limited visibility text displayed. Safety department wanted the following improvements:
- More notification variants to choose from
- Display the current time from their NTP server during the normal weather conditions
- Schedule the notifications according to NOTAM information
- Weather information input from Vaisala Weather Solution
Our Solution
We proposed our solution that would comply with their detailed requirements. We had system design meetings, where we discussed with the safety personnel and operators to get a detailed overview of their needs and expectations.
From that, we put together the system design document. Then we developed the full solution that had seven of our Rugged LED Message Boards and server software with the user interface for the operator.
The software has numerous logics and safety triggers under-the-hood. As for example, we never want to display information on the displays that are not current or wrong. The software incorporates local (on-site) displays management and monitoring features. This approach assures that displayed information is always up to date. Local control, monitoring, and reporting software are running in every Ampron display unit.
The system is intended to raise the situational awareness amongst stakeholders and raise the overall safety. It consists of LED displays, central software, and very user-friendly graphical user Interface.
