The challenge

The problem to solve

Tokmanni — one of the largest discount retail chains in the Nordics, with over 200 stores in Finland — cut over a new distribution centre next to its existing 2008 facility at Mäntsälä in spring 2024. The new centre handles 150–200 vehicle visits per day, and for that volume to work the gate had to be unmanned, controlled remotely from the manned gatehouse at the existing site. Every driver arriving from a European long-haul shift needed to read the confirmation, routing instruction and unloading dock from the cab, in outdoor weather, in a language they may not share with site staff — with zero-touch reliability, because a display that fails at 03:00 stops 30 trucks.

The solution

What Ampron delivered

Visy Oy delivered the whole access-control chain to Tokmanni: number-plate and container-code recognition at approach, data exchange with Tokmanni's yard-management systems for pre-registration, remote gate control from the manned gatehouse at the existing site, and driver-facing LED displays at the gate and along the routing path. Ampron supplied the LED displays — high-brightness, sunlight-readable outdoor units driven directly by Visy's yard-management logic via the same REST API pattern Visy uses across its port and industrial-site deployments. Each unit shipped in Visy's standard integration configuration (standard controller, REST API, 240 V mains), so Visy debugs its own integration and Ampron ships hardware that lands ready to run.
