32 Dual-Sided Narrow Outdoor LCD Displays for the Estonian National Rail Network
The challenge
The problem to solve
Railway station passenger information systems must meet EN 50121-4 — the European electromagnetic compatibility standard for railway environments. Standard commercial display hardware does not qualify. For a national network operator procuring under public tender rules, this creates a narrow supplier field: the hardware must pass the railway EM standard, the supplier must be able to deliver at network scale, and a long-term service agreement must be available to keep the fleet running after handover. Eesti Raudtee ran two public procurement rounds to build out its station passenger information display fleet — tender references 179178 and 305487.
The solution
What Ampron delivered
Ampron supplied 32 dual-sided narrow outdoor LCD passenger information displays across the Estonian national rail network. The deployment rolled out in waves through 2024 and 2025, covering the full tender scope across both procurement rounds. All 32 units are certified to EN 50121-4. The dual-sided format places active displays on both faces, maximising information visibility on station platforms regardless of which direction a passenger approaches from. Ampron holds a direct service agreement with Eesti Raudtee covering the full 32-unit fleet — maintenance, response times, spare parts and remote support are defined under the agreement.
