DeIce OPS Communication Upgrade at Tallinn Airport
The challenge
The problem to solve
Tallinn Airport's de-icing pad operations require clear, real-time communication between the de-ice operator and aircraft crew during critical pre-departure phases. Existing signage was static and inadequate for dynamic operational messages. The solution needed to be vehicle-mounted, weatherproof, and operable from an in-cab controller — visible at operational distances in all weather.
The solution
What Ampron delivered
Ampron designed and supplied a deployable DR Series LED Electronic Variable Message Sign mounted on a specialist vehicle used on the de-icing pad. The display shows dynamic operational instructions — radio frequencies, pad numbers, hold/proceed messages — controlled by the operator from inside the cab via a simple console connected to the REST API. The unit meets airport apron environmental requirements.
Outcomes
Results
- ✓ Dynamic message capability — operators update display instantly from the cab
- ✓ Display visible at operational distances in all weather conditions including winter darkness
- ✓ Radio frequency and pad instruction messages delivered without voice-only dependency
- ✓ System operational across full Estonian winter operating season
