AS Tallinna Lennujaam has procured an expansion to its aircraft de-icing communication system at Tallinn Airport. The original system — a deployable LED display mounted on a de-icing vehicle trailer, controlled by an operator via tablet — has been expanded to include two additional screens with corresponding tablets and mounting hardware.
The expansion brings the operational setup to three simultaneous screens. The web-based control software has been updated to support multi-screen operation from a single operator interface, allowing a de-icing pad supervisor to send consistent instructions — pad numbers, radio frequencies, hold/proceed messages — to all active vehicles in the sequence.
The lead display unit has also been upgraded with an integrated diesel generator, enabling autonomous operation for at least 8 hours without connection to ground power. This is relevant for de-icing operations that take place away from fixed power points, particularly during peak morning departure windows in winter.
The original Tallinn Airport de-icing display system has been in operation since 2019. The expansion confirms the operational value of the system and Tallinn Airport's decision to scale it rather than replace it. More information on the original deployment is available in the case study section of this site.
