Transit
Real-Time Public Transport Arrival API Integration into LED Message Boards
Project overview REST API integration connecting a transit software provider's platform to Ampron BS-series LED displays at bus stops, delivering real-time arrival data automatically.
Customer Transit software provider
✓ Real-time arrival predictions displayed at stops — refreshed every few seconds from the transit backend
✓ Stale data is never shown: the board flags when live data is missing
✓ Direct API integration, no custom middleware
The challenge
The problem to solve
A transit software provider needed to surface real-time arrival predictions from its transit management platform on physical LED displays at bus stops. The displays had to update within seconds of every prediction change and never show stale departures when live data was unavailable.
The solution
What Ampron delivered
Ampron BS-series full-matrix LED boards were installed at bus stops. Each display's controller polls the transit platform's real-time REST API directly over a mobile router, with no intermediate server. When live data stops arriving, the board shows that it is updating instead of displaying stale departures.
Outcomes
Results
- ✓ Real-time arrival predictions displayed at stops — refreshed every few seconds from the transit backend
- ✓ Stale data is never shown: the board flags when live data is missing
- ✓ Direct API integration, no custom middleware
